Welcome from Superintendent Godfrey Saunders

Welcome from Superintendent Godfrey Saunders

Dear Members of the Belgrade Public School Community,

Welcome to the 2018-19 school year. I trust that your summer has gone well. This coming school year brings with it both challenges and excitement. Our challenges include (but are not limited to) issues such as growth, facilities, construction and funding. Overcoming our challenges will require us to work as a team. I know, however, that statement is easy to make but difficult to achieve. I know that if we vow to be open and transparent, deal with others with respect and begin each conversation with trust, we will be successful. We may not always agree, but we should always be able to say that we dealt with each other openly, honestly and without any hidden agendas. That said, there is still much excitement to look forward to this year. The excitement stems from the fact that we have another opportunity to share, learn and grow as an educational community, which will enhance our ability to serve all students. In short, we get to practice our humanity daily. That is a statement that few occupations can make.

Parents and guardians are an important component in our efforts to help all students. With that in mind, communication between teachers, parents, students, building and district leaders will be critical to the collective success we experience this year. If you, as a parent or guardian, have a question or concern, I encourage you to take the time to contact those involved to resolve your issue. Of course, if you have reason to provide positive feedback, you are encouraged to communicate that as well.  School calendars and district and school websites are great ways to stay informed about all matters related to education. Please make use of these resources.

One of my goals this year is to achieve improved relations between central office and parents, teachers, students, and the community at large. To assist me with this goal, I will establish teacher, parent and student advisory groups. I will meet monthly with each group to problem-solve, share and learn from each other. The input from the groups will be beneficial as I work with our leadership teams to plan and implement what is best for the district. Additionally, it will allow me to provide the trustees with critical information in their efforts to make better informed decisions about our schools and community.

Lastly, it is both an honor and a privilege to serve as your interim superintendent. In the short time that I have been on the job, I have witnessed a very talented and dedicated team going above and beyond to make sure that the educational experience for all students is productive and positive. The Belgrade educational community is comprised of professionals (at all levels) that are second to none. I am proud to have the opportunity to serve on your team.

Thank you again for the opportunity to serve as your interim superintendent. I look forward to working with you this year.
