The information on this page provides an overview of Belgrade School District's emergency and safety protocol. This page also serves as a guide for parents, students, and staff should there be a school emergency or if schools are delayed or canceled due to inclement weather.
Please report any safety concerns you may have to your school principal, the SRO, or make a report using our anonymous reporting system.
Belgrade Schools is committed to providing a safe environment for students, staff, and visitors. We work closely with a variety of safety officials at the city, county, and state level to ensure our schools are well prepared for an emergency.
Parent Information about the Belgrade Emergency Operations Plan
In the event of an emergency or Drill affecting a part (or all) of the school population, the district has created an emergency operations plan (EOP) to identify and respond to incidents. The EOP outlines the responsibilities and duties of Belgrade Schools and its employees. In order to help parents understand and be able to assist with any given incident, it is important for them to know the basics.
FIRE - In this event staff and students leave the school to go to the evacuation site.
Evacuation- In this event staff and students leave the school and go to an off-campus location
Earthquake- In this event staff and students may need to evacuate to an alternate location/evacuation site.
Shelter in Place – The idea behind the shelter-in-place procedures is to keep students and staff confined within the building at a heightened sense of awareness. An event causing a shelter-in-place could result from natural disasters, power outages or police/fire activity in the vicinity. Depending on the circumstances, lockdown or possible evacuation may follow.
Lockdown - The purpose of a school lockdown is to protect students and staff in the event of a threat inside the building or on school grounds. Students are absolutely NOT allowed to use their cell phones and they remain inside their classrooms behind locked doors. For your child(s) safety, parents are not allowed to pick up child (or come into building) until lockdown is over.
Parent Responsibility
Make sure your child’s school has updated contact information AT ALL TIMES.
If students and staff need to evacuate, any medication your child has at the school will be brought as long it is safe for staff to do so.
Please listen for an automated message to come through on your phone about the incident at hand. DO NOT call your child’s school(s) as this will tie up needed phone lines.
Be prepared for more information to come out through other means (radio, website, etc.).
Procedure for Picking up your child after an Incident
Report to assigned area. This location will vary depending on the situation and will be made available.
A picture I.D. of the parent (or guardian) will be required at all times by the person in charge.
A school designee will go to the student assembly area to get your child/ren.
Parent/guardian will be asked to sign a form indicating they picked up their child/ren.
If the child is in the first aid area the parent/guardian will be escorted to that area.
Like any public service, people count on our schools to remain open. Our role in the community
goes beyond providing educational services:
A significant number of students in the district would remain home alone without supervision if their school had an unscheduled closure. Many families find it challenging to adjust work schedules on short notice. We encourage families to have a plan in case of school closure.
A functioning school building provides warmth and safety in addition to instruction.
Many students rely on their schools for breakfast and lunch. These meals are convenient and provide nutritional needs for children who may otherwise go without.
Delayed Start - school will start two hours later than the regular schedule if conditions are
expected to significantly improve
Bus routes will pick up two hours later than the regular schedule.
Breakfast will not be served.
No AM preschool program.
Dismissal will be at the regular time.
Early Release - school will be released at either 1:00 pm or 2:00 pm.
Students will be dismissed at the release time. Bus routes will run at the release time.
All after-school activities and sports will be canceled unless the situation is resolved.
PROJECTED LOW TEMPERATURES (consideration for wind chill)
-30°F Cancel bus service / school in session
-40°F Cancel school
School Cancellation - no school, childcare, or afterschool activities.
1. After school activities will be canceled unless the situation is resolved.
If there are four or more district bus routes canceled, then morning bus service will be canceled for the entire district.
Notification of school cancellation, or delayed start will be made by 6:30 am each school day where the schedule is altered. Notification of early release will be made by 11:00 for a 1:00 dismissal or 12:00 for a 2:00 dismissal. Parents will be notified via Infinite Campus Messenger, the district website and social media, as well as TV/radio. In inclement weather we encourage parents to make attendance decisions for their children based on their specific ability to get to school safely.
Belgrade School District has determined that it is important to introduce a new communications tool called Anonymous Alerts®. Anonymous Alerts® allows students or parents to quickly, easily, and anonymously report urgent information to school officials across all of our school campuses. The system encourages students, parents and staff to confidentially report bullying, cyber-bullying, and other sensitive topics through private messages to our administration. Belgrade School District does not support, encourage, or tolerate any behavior that prevents any student from reaching their full potential.
We also believe that the best way to address problems that our students face in school is personal contact with a teacher, school administrator, psychologist or counselor and we strongly encourage and fully support that continued practice. However, we do know that sometimes there is a concern that a student or parent may want to communicate anonymously.
Click below to place an incident report from Internet connected computers/tablets.
To place a report from an iPhone or Android phone, download the free app from the Google Play (Android) or Apple App (iPhone) store. Search for "Anonymous Alerts." After downloading the app, click on it, enter activation code: belgradesd.
The mobile apps and Web-based reporting system provides secure 1-way or 2-way encrypted messages, increasing the flow of important information to school officials. Message topics for submission may include bullying, cyber-bullying, family difficulties, self-harm/cutting, drug and alcohol abuse, student depression, sexual harassment, gang related issues or strange/abnormal student behavior.
All reports remain completely anonymous, although submitters have the option to reveal their identity if they prefer to have a person-to-person discussion. The program is monitored from 7AM until 5PM and should only be used for serious and urgent matters. Indeed, if something disturbing or life threatening occurs at other times, it is imperative to call 911.
We feel that we have a responsibility to offer this tool to our community in order to protect the safety of our students, providing avenues for confidential disclosure when there is something serious that is troubling them. At Belgrade School District, our goal is to enhance the student’s learning experience and limit any roadblocks to a student’s success, giving everyone the opportunity to succeed.
