Semi-Monthly Payroll Transition
FAQ: Transition to Semi-Monthly Payroll
What is changing?
Starting July 10, 2024, we will be moving from a monthly payroll schedule to a semi-monthly payroll schedule. Pay periods will be 1st-15th and 16th-end of month, rather than 10th-9th.
What are the new pay dates?
Employees will be paid twice a month, on the 10th & 25th of the month and 24 total pay periods.
When will I receive my first paycheck under the pay schedule?
- Classified Admin- first paycheck will be July 10, 2024
- Certified Staff- first paycheck will be September 10, 2024 (pending MOU approval)
- Classified staff (9-10 month)- first paycheck will be September 10, 2024 for any hours worked August 16- August 31, 2024.
- Classified staff (12 month)- first paycheck will be July 10, 2024 for hours worked June 16- 30, 2024. In addition, this group will receive an extra check in June for hours worked June 10-15. Employees can expect this payment prior to June 30, 2024.
- Certified Admin- first paycheck will be July 10.
- Temporary Summer Employees- first check will be July 10, for hours worked June 16-30.
- Substitute Teachers- first paycheck will be September 10, 2024 for days worked from August 16-31.
- Other Substitute/Temporary Employees- beginning July 10, 2024 hourly employees, based on pay period schedules, will be paid on the 10th and 25th.
Why is this change happening?
This change will provide more frequent access to your earnings, increasing efficiencies, and help with recruitment and retention.
How will this affect my paycheck?
Each paycheck will be smaller than the current monthly paycheck but will be received more frequently. Your total annual salary remains unchanged. However, you can estimate your semi-monthly net pay. Here is a paycheck calculator for your reference.
What do I need to do?
If you have monthly bills that are paid automatically, you may need to adjust the payment dates. Payroll will handle the transition automatically.
Who can I contact with questions?
Please contact your assigned payroll clerk with any questions or concerns.
- Last names beginning with A-J = Breighan Long- blong@bsd44.org or ext. 2123
- Last names beginning with K-Z = Lori Postma - lpostma@bsd44.org or ext. 2016
Will there be a meeting to discuss this change?
Yes, join us on June 5, 2024 at 3:45pm for a district-wide zoom meeting where we will discuss this change and answer any questions.
What if the pay date falls on a weekend or holiday?
Employees will be paid on the Friday before the weekend or the day prior to the holiday. Example: Wednesday, December 25 is the holiday, therefore payday will be Tuesday, December 24.
How will this change affect teacher pay in June each year?
Rather than receiving 3 paychecks in June, teachers will receive 6.
Will supplemental pay dates be changing?
No, supplemental pay will still be processed on the 10th of each month.
When will coaches be paid on the new pay schedule?
Coaches will still be paid twice and the final payment will be made on the 10th following the end of their season.
How will this affect my deductions such as insurance, union dues, 403(b) contributions, etc.?
All deductions will remain the same, but will be paid in two installments, half on the 10th and half on the 25th.
How will this affect the taxes I pay each paycheck?
The IRS issues multiple tax tables and our system will now be using the semi-monthly tax table, rather than the monthly tax table, to calculate your taxes accordingly.
When will extra-duty stipends be paid?
Extra duty stipends will be paid on January 10th and May 10th of each year. For more information, please visit BSD HR Website.
Will the work week change?
No, the work week for hourly employees will remain Sunday-Saturday and overtime will be calculated for hours worked from Sunday-Saturday.

First Report of Injury
Workers’ compensation benefits are dependent, by state law, on timely reporting. Additionally, best outcomes for an injured employee are achieved when a worker compensation claim is initiated without delay. All employees shall promptly report any injury that occurs at work as early as possible and, if possible, submit the workers compensation accident form within the assigned shift but no later than 30 days after the injury. Occupational illnesses that develop over time should be reported at the time the worker suspects their symptoms may be work-related. The Workers Compensation accident from can be obtained from your Principal, Immediate Supervisor or the Payroll/Business Office or located on the District Human Resources Website, https://www.bsd44.org/hr/ Failure to report promptly negatively affects the District’s rate and workers compensation benefits may be denied.
