DISTRICT CRISIS PLAN
TRAUMA TEAM MEETING CHECKLIST
-
Who is in charge? Direct all Press to the Superintendent.

Presentation and discussion of FACTS.
-
Prepare initial announcement for faculty and students of affected buildings.
-
Prepare our own Risk List of “team members”, faculty, students, acquaintances, coaches, etc.
-
Set time for a faculty meeting and call all faculty, remembering the substitutes. If the faculty meeting can be held at 8:00 a.m., then only the faculty closest to the student need to be called in advance.

Determine clearing area, counseling areas, student support/gathering areas, and "time to be alone" areas. Exact room numbers and areas need to be set. One person needs to be responsible for taking students to areas set aside. Determine dismissal time.

Retrieve “Risk Lists” from faculty and staff. Determine numbers of traumatized students and faculty.

Assign, and escort, students to gathering areas.
-
Contact faculty counselors, if necessary, and obtain subs for them and affected teachers – get floaters.

Determine the needs and support necessary for ancillary staff (Bus Drivers, Food Service, etc.).
-
Who Knows Family? Call the family involved (if appropriate) to inform them about the “Team” and obtain their wishes.

Determine other needs:

a) Mental Health
-
b) Psychiatric services
-
c) Media
-
d) Ministerial Assn.
-
e) etc.
-

Discuss the need for specific group meetings (parents, special class meetings, EMT’s, friends of deceased).

Determine disposition of personal effects from the locker and/or desk of student(s) involved.

Set time and place for an end-of-day faculty and staff meeting.
-
Schedule follow-up meeting.
-
Other concerns.

Discuss/evaluate initial crisis intervention plan, paying attention to the targeted population.

Check on immediate attention items (solicit team input).
-
Determine family’s wishes/needs regarding memorials, ways we can assist, etc., if appropriate.

Discuss memorial services (if appropriate): Yes/No, Where, When, Who, How, etc.
-
Review after-school communication net: Trauma Team members' itineraries, phone contact numbers, etc.
-
Assign duties (e.g., phone calls to “experts”, legal persons, support personnel).
-
Self-Check!! Check the status of each Trauma Team member's physical and mental health condition.

Discuss faculty and staff reaction.
-
Discuss student reaction.

IMMEDIATE CARE IDENTIFICATION LIST
Identify traumatized students in your classroom or those that need immediate attention, and assure them that help is on the way. Do not forget to include yourself in this list if needed.

List names of identified traumatized / immediate care persons.

Give list to a Trauma Team Member when requested.

Release traumatized students to a Trauma Team Member.

Continue to refer students, faculty members, or others in need of help to the Trauma Reaction Team. (Use the “Risk List” template below). The Risk List is intended to identify those who may be in need of care and concern in the upcoming hours and days.
